Amara Cotterman and her mother came to us when she was just 7-years-old. From Groveport, Ohio, the family was struggling with managing Amara’s emotional and behavioral issues. Almost at their wits’ end, the Cotterman family decided to give Intrinsic Care a shot.

Seeking Treatment for Emotional & Behavioral Stressors in Children

What Were Amara’s Symptoms?

Amara was emotionally out of control. At age 7 she would have long days whining and crying fits when she would not get her way. At times, a simple compliment to another person in her presence would trigger an attack of low self-esteem, self-loathing and lashing out to those around her. She had been physical slow to master fine motor and gross motor tasks.

  • Low self-esteem
  • Lashing out
  • Trouble mastering fine & gross motor skills

Why Intrinsic Care?

Amara’s mother was first referred to Intrinsic by her MD. As they started seeing results, the Cotterman family quickly realized Intrinsic Care was a place that could really help their daughter.

What Was Causing These Symptoms?

When we first saw Amara, she was a shy and physically awkward little girl. Our examination revealed that her nervous system was functioning like a child a few years younger and was not effectively adapting to mental, emotional, and physical stress.

Intrinsic Care’s Approach

After the first consultation with Amara, we found evidence of an abnormal spinal function. This was contributing to the neurological challenges Amara was experiencing, and over our course of care, we were able to start correcting the underlying neuro-spinal dysfunction, and moving Amara and her family to a better quality of life.

How is Amara Doing Now?

Within two short months, it was like a switch had flipped. She came in smiling and looking more confident, and her re-examination showed that her brain function had shifted quickly, “catching up” to what was effective for her age.

Emotional outbursts had dropped – from 10/10 to 4/10
Self-esteem improved – from 10/10 to 5/10
Her motor skills improved – from 5/10 to 8/10
And Amara showed far more peace and ease than ever before – 3/10 to 8/10

What Amara’s Mom, Michelle Has to Say about the Experience

“After starting care, I immediately noticed changes to her behavior. Her disappointment at not getting her way became age appropriate, her focus increased, she is more confident playing with friends and she started using silverware! Although, she does prefer her fingers. She wants to participate in sports with other kids more, as well.

She is able to understand how her attitude toward things in life effects the outcome. She has taken an interest in hobbies such as collecting things. She is better able to express herself and her emotions verbally.”
